This is Bullis Hall, the circa 1800's Greek Revival landmark in the picturesque and historic hamlet of Bangall in Stanford, NY. The Hudson Valley, Dutchess County property is situated with excellent street frontage on Hunns Lake Road just off Route 82. With over 6,000 square feet, the building is ready for its next steward; a blank canvas for future use. Bangall is one of many hamlets in the town of Stanford, where the Dutchess and Columbia Railroads once rolled in from New York, servicing dairy farms and bringing summer vacationers to nearby Hunns Lake. J.H. and J.W. Bullis are the original names behind the building, who resided in the large colonial home across the street. The earliest documents of the building record a series of stores, including a tin shop, iron roofing fabrication, a post office and a modest hotel. The building evolved to become a gathering place for the community when a large elegant room was added circa 1900, that hosted musical performances, comedy shows, voting, and dinner meetings. Prominent town families such as John June and Thaddeus Knickerbocker were once tenants. Addison Berkey turned Bullis Hall into an opulent Bed and Breakfast years later, with an elegant smoking room, grand dining and credentialed chefs. Relais & Chateaux featured Bullis Hall in their well-known boutique hotel catalogue. You may enter Bullis Hall from the lovely stone walled, slate paved private terraced garden courtyard. On this main level is a large foyer with a fireplace which opens to the great room, also with a fireplace. Oversized windows, high ceilings are throughout, as well as detailed crown moldings. There are presently five “suites” with baths; three suites are comprised of two generous rooms. Two suites have direct outdoor access. Another large room is used as a conference room. There is a beautiful long outdoor balcony overlooking the hamlet. The cozy, wood beamed lower level includes another wood paneled foyer. The street facing entrance is here with a newly poured cement walkway running the entire length outside. Back inside, another room with a fireplace leads to more space and then into the modern, custom-built gym, with new lighting and separate heat and A/C. Additionally, a half bath and more office/space is on this level. At the very top, third floor level, there is more living space with a kitchen and bath. New roof and gutters were installed in 2019, new well water pump 2023, exterior painting and new exterior decking were completed in 2020. Currently being used as office space. This is just two hours from New York and nearby Metro North and Amtrak. Nearby to shopping and dining towns of Millbrook, Sharon CT, Millerton, Rhinebeck and more. Welcome to the Hudson Valley!
